Before you opt for any cosmetic surgery, your main concerns are its effects and cost. Many people believe that such surgeries are a waste of money, even though they help increase your confidence and give you features and enhancements you desire. At Meshkin Medical, we encourage patients to consider all their options and not let opinions sway their decision. Nevertheless, we understand that cost is an important factor in the decision and endeavor to provide the most accurate and honest information to our patients.
Estimated Costs
The cost of the procedure really depends on the kind of results you want. The more hair you need to transplant, the higher the cost will be. If you only want a clean goatee or moustache, you might need only 1,500 to 2,000 grafts. If you want a full beard, you’ll need more than 3,000 grafts. Small procedures where surgeons just need to fill in some gaps, will cost around $3,000. Big procedures to create a full beard would require more grafts and time so they can cost around $6,000 to $7,000.
These are just estimates and you need to get a consultation with a surgeon before you make your decision. The surgeon will explain the procedure and the costs to you. They’ll also explain the long-term benefits and surgery aftercare so you can make an informed choice.
Why Does It Cost So Much?
Beard transplant is a complicated, labor intensive procedure. Surgeons need to harvest individual follicles from your scalp and collect thousands of them to get the best effect. Each follicle then has to be planted into microscopic incisions made on the face. These follicles need to be transplanted without any damage so they require a careful handling. As you can guess, this is a very long and exhausting process for the surgeons and sessions can last for as long as eight hours.
With so much effort and time spent on the procedure, it’s bound to be expensive. You do get value for money though, because the beard will continue to grow naturally after the incisions have healed and the follicles have fused with the surrounding skin. After three months, you’ll have the facial hair you wanted with no added costs in the future because the transplant is permanent.
